Simulating Keypresses

beretboy has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have a perl program (target platfrom: Slackware Linux/X/Blackboxwm) that launches programs with GUI interfaces (arcade games, specifically). Some of these games have menu's and such that I'd like to have the program automatically navigate through on the startup of each program so the user doesn't have to. How do I simulate keypresses in these applications?
