Google Desktop Plugin in Perl

geekondemand has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

OK. I admit it, I'm lazy. I'm looking to do some Google Desktop plugins to help me with some monitoring. I'd like to do them in Perl, but there's no examples in the Google Desktop SDK documentation. Has anyone done one of these beasties in Perl? -- Just a clarification... I'm talking about a plugin for the sidebar, not an indexing plugin.

Google doesn't provide anything for Perl-based plugins. I think you can write plugins in any language that support COM and XML (used by Google), but you'll have to get knowledge about the Google Desktop plugin architecture itself to that to write any plugin for the Google Desktop.

ps. Perhaps some ideas / help may be found here

      Hi

Unfortunately, the Remote Google Desktop won't be much use. It works by running a quick Perl script that connects to the GDS query API. But the Query API is simply a Google instance of a local webserver (http://127.0.0.1:4664)
