Well, the monastery has come far from its Everything Engine roots, but linking by name is still a key aspect of the site design. As a matter of fact, I'd like to see its use expanded rather than reduced; I really prefer to say VSarkiss instead of 72267. It's just that a lot of our node names aren't easily linked, not like on Everything2.

Granted, there are cases, such as when writing Site Docs, that id numbers work better, but for widely visible nodes like those on the monkbar, I'd prefer to keep using names.

I'd like to agree with you. It sounds really nice. But... Tutorials doesn't work so well in practice.

I think the underlying point is that linking by title is a great convenience for users writing user-level nodes, people talking in the cb, and so on. I totally agree with that. But I don't think that corresponds to a principle that linking by title is better for links in/to high-visibility, high-traffic pages under "site" management.

We're building the house of the future together.

[haukex]: not the most efficient, but then again, I don't have that many modules on CPAN :-)
[Corion]: haukex: Yes, but if it's only supposed to run on my machine, I can be far more liberal with how I extract the code etc.
[Corion]: haukex: Yes - I see the benefit of using Dist::Zilla for people with 150+ modules on CPAN, but I don't see it for myself, and I'm always put off from contributing to such modules because they require a lot of toolchain setup that I don't want to ...
[Corion]: ... spend time on if I only want to provide a short patch
[haukex]: Corion: Yes exactly, in the author tests I don't worry about portability as much, I also don't list the author tests' dependencies in Makefile.PL
[haukex]: I figure someone who wants to contribute will know how to install the missing modules ;-) Not the nicest way to go but I don't think many people are using my modules yet
