I'm glad the PM community mostly agrees with me that this is a meditation worthy of reading. I don't agree with you, though, jimt, that the language needs whacking to become more like PHP. I do agree that the reputation and perception of Perl needs repair.
What I'd like to see is that you take the knowledge and experience you obviously have, and apply your passion to writing a book that describes the elegant and practical subset of TMTOWTDI and CPAN that will make bells ring deep and resonant notes in noobs, PHBs and Perl gurus alike. If you're afraid to go it alone, set up a mailing list or wiki devoted to such a discussion. This was a good start, but it's going to take a bit more than this to convince the whole worldwide Perl community to wear Prussian helmets and jackboots... or even Mercury's winged shoes. ;^D Don Wilde "There's more than one level to any answer."
