madtoperl, I have a news flash for you and jesuashok:

We, PerlMonks, are not degrading either of you. You two are doing that to yourselves, by posting work that is not your own, claiming credit for that work, and then lying about it when you are caught red-handed.

Furthermore, the attitudes you display when presented with the evidence of your wrongdoing

help If you can, otherwise shut.

are also degrading, but again, it is something you are doing to yourselves.

Don't want to be degraded? Act responsibly. Don't lie, cheat, or steal. Then you won't need to reply indignantly to any posts calling you liars, cheats, and thieves.

Oh, and if you somehow mean by "don't degrade" that we shouldn't downvote you when your bad behaviour is uncovered, well good luck with that.

Just a thought that came to mind:

Act responsibly. Don't lie, cheat, or steal.

Even the most noble of us do blatantly lie, cheat and steal quite often.

I (and most people, too) do it all the time; but nobody bothers, because we do it openly. We either tell it right away that we lied, cheated and stole - because of something, giving credits as to why or from whom we did, and how that is improving things in some way or another.

That's the way to do what you did, the way most people tolerate it. I have seen the effort you have done. That's alright, it's not degrading or anything bad, just do tell it like it is.

      Cheers, Sören

I think jesuashok would have been fine if he'd simply troubled himself to say:

This node inspired by C Program to propose a girl.

        Or even merely noting:

        Translated to Perl by jesuashok

He did neither of these things, however, and when confronted with the evidence, proceeded to lie about it.

IMHO, compounding your crimes compounds your guilt.

You may of course feel differently about it, especially if yours had been the original work appropriated, without attribution.

I used you as an example because, being an active member, I remembered seeing another fairly recent batch of plagiaristic posts by . . . well, you. If people weren't posting obvious plagiarisms perhaps I wouldn't have to link to anyone.

The only "degrading" going on is people trying to pass off the work of others as their own. It's a rather simple concept: If you didn't write it, credit the source with at least a link or a name.
