My car whilst taking a bath.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but takes 200K.

++. I've seen limos with bath-tubs (or tiny swimming pools - not quite sure). It could happen that someone checks into PM from one of those. Knowing us, it probably *will* happen.

heh, I was hoping this poll would get used. Gives me the opportunity to brag about having logged into Perl Monks from 38,000', whilst on a SIA flight from Tokyo to Singapore earlier this year.

First time I've used the net on a plane, and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the connection. The only real challenges were elbow room, and hitting the wrong keys during turbulence :)

The only real challenges were elbow room, and hitting the wrong keys during turbulence

And what about the price? ;-)

From memory, I think it was around US$20 for the duration of the flight. It was a 6 hour flight, so that wasn't too bad :)

Only problem with that was - the battery on my ThinkPad only lasts 3 hours tops :(

Gee, and all of those times I even pointed out that I was chatting from the hot tub (zip-lock bags++)... Not that I think that's the most unusual place I've connected to PerlMonks from... Doctor's exam room? Tent? (tilly even dropped by and blew up my bed) Rodeo? Oh well, I guess I now have one more reason to take a hot-air balloon ride.

I had to pick the friend's bathtub option, although in truth I can't remember if I checked Perlmonks as well, or just my email.

But that's nothing, compared to typing with a toothbrush while taking a shower...which I have only heard of, but never witnessed.

Where can I get a waterproof computer? I hope you disabled the WiFi camera.

Not all the above. Too bad, I really would like to have been on a Space Shuttle. But...
    • I have logged in while taking a bath, both in my own home and in another home.
    • Train, boat, car (yep, while driving, once)
    • Home, another home, at the office
    • In a very nice pub in Cambridge (not StarBucks, but hey, free wifi!), while watching the telly, England beating Andorra in a soccer match.
    • Can't remember about a washroom, so I guess not.
    • Too old for school (well, at 43 I could teach, and yes I know, at 43, I could follow a course).
    • My university! Yep. The Amsterdam Perl Mongers organized the Third Dutch Perl Workshop in the main building of my "old" university in Delft. Even though it was 20 years ago that I was a student, it still felt "mine".
    • Somewhere else... yep, plenty. In a park. And in our backyard, on the terrace, in the garage. Visiting the neighbours, using our own wifi-network. In the building of the Birmingham City Symphony Orchestra during YAPC::Europe::2006 (I've seen other Perl Monks there who did the same).

Most unusual place... the boat. The high-speed trimaran ferry from Hoek van Holland (The Netherlands) to Harwich (United Kingdom), and back. Wonderful to read nodes while speeding the North Sea, taking over immense cargo ships, and once in a big storm.

I hope to be able one day to log in while taking off in a rocket to outer space. Shuttle, SpaceshipOne or whatever. Gotta get rich first... but how... once upon a time we have a Wendy in space. Wendy keeps on dreaming.

In an international airport whilst waiting for connecting flight. Internet was free.
Free Net? Which airport is that? I wanna go there!

I wrote that in 2006? Strange. Ferihegy (Budapest airport) has free wifi, at least on some parts of terminal 2, and I think it might have been like that even in 2006. When was terminal 2 reopened?

Somewhere else: Looks for Internet Center :-)

Apart from office, when i go to internet center, first i log in to Perl Monks.

My somewhere else is a secluded cubby hole inside a tiny grove of trees nestled between a fraternity house and the university building where I work. You are surrounded by hundreds of people but you can't see them and you can barely hear them.

This summer I logged into PM.org from a used book store/ineternet caffe (in a city 500km from my hometown) where if you buy a book you get half an hour free surfing. I bought three books and was happily surfing for one and a half hour for free :-)

    While bathing?

I'm sorry, but electrical equipment and water is not the best of combinations; I would think one would want to avoid using a computer while (I'm from the US; we don't use "whilst" 'cause our teachers would hit us for it) in the bath.

As an aside, the closest I've ever come to an exotic locale is logging on to Perl Monks at my sister-in-law's house. The only likely form of transport would be either MetroNorth or an Acela

I don't know if a low voltage device in a bath is dangerous, but I have committed the sin of logging into Perl Monks whilst using a DELL LAPTOP ON MY LAP!

Ouch! That's very risky behavior. Maybe you should take up something safer. Skydiving?

While the low voltages used in laptops wouldn't be dangerous to humans (or aliens?), water probably isn't good for the innards of a typical laptop. The laptops I've seen don't tend to be watertight…

Admittedly is was to prove a point, but halfway up a 30m cliff-face.
On the same face, I also took some time out to read a book on my Newton, and to make some notes about climbing techniques.

I wonder which of the 9 (as I write) Monks whose most exotic sites were on a Space Shuttle were lucky enough to have been able to get to PerlMonks from the Space Shuttle. (Or conversely, which 9 astronauts who've flown on the Shuttle are lucky enough to be Perl Monks.) I wonder how many Monks could get near an active Space Shuttle,

It only says logged in from a space shuttle... not necessarily from a space shuttle whilst in orbit.

I never mentioned the Space Shuttle being in orbit at the time, either. I did, however, make the assumption that it was an active Shuttle, not one in a museum, where interested persons could climb all over it with few restrictions.

I am quite aware that the set of people who have access to the Shuttle is much larger than the set of people who fly in the Shuttle.

I know I've noticed this poll just a "little bit" late, but the most unusual place from which I've logged into Perl Monks is a hospital's bed, which in the course of the year or so since May, 31st 2006 has unfortunately become not unusual at all... and this is an option I haven't seen mentioned yet.

<quote> Nothing is stranger then a bunch of military members getting together....except, maybe, a bunch of perl crazed monks getting together.</quote>

Where would Perl-crazed monks in the military fall in this ranking? It may be a very small group, however. The only member of the Perl monk's military order of whom I'm aware (there may be many, many more) is brian d foy.

well the PM Military Orders seem to be more "Ghosts" and "Ninjas" so good luck finding out who they are but there are a lot of service members, or former service members, here at PM....And yah, that proably makes us all extra nuts :)
