Both sides held ownership of about 50% of the namespaces for Catalyst. Either could have said "fuck you", pulled co-maint permissions, and as a result there could be no more releases of Catalyst at all. It may seem a little high-drama, but trust me when I say things were very close to going quite pear-shaped.
