Determining the directory the running script is in

cLive ;-) has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I've been using this: 
#!/usr/bin/perl
use strict;
use warnings;
use Cwd 'abs_path';

my $script_dir = substr( abs_path($0), 0, rindex(abs_path($0),'/') )

print $script_dir.$/;

Seems a little long winded though... Is there a simpler answer?

    How about

    use File::Basename 'dirname';
use Cwd 'abs_path';

my $script_dir = abs_path(dirname($0));
