Here's my issue...I need to execute a given system command on a *nix box, that could be literally anything. I need to capture its STDOUT and STDERR (preferably in the same string/variable), along with its return value. And I need to do this without adding any descriptors or modifying the command itself, in any way
# the usual solution would be to add descriptors to
# redirect STDERR to STDOUT
And since this will be deployed across several servers running different OSes (all
*nix based; some Linux, some Solaris, etc), I'd very much prefer a pure perl solution, rather than architecture-dependant XS code. I've looked at IPC::Run
, but it has a compiled dependancy in IO::Pty
Any suggestions? Thanks as always, all.
Systems development is like banging your head against a wall...
It's usually very painful, but if you're persistent, you'll get through it.
