I consider an object base class (such as Ovid's) to be a framework. One I've worked with before is Class::Std, so I went looking for others referring to that module as a framework. I found these two and then stopped going through the results:
So I don't think this conception of "framework" is so far out of the ordinary. I think the rant and other comments by Anonymous Monk/Peter Pei have been poorly conceived and poorly delivered. The best thing I could say about all that hot air is that it motivated me to say I enjoyed this article and thanks to Ovid for writing it! Ever since Beyond Inside-Out, I've wanted (but not needed) a framework built around Anno's Alter ego objects. Ovid's article gives me some more to think about.
