I consider an object base class (such as Ovid's) to be a framework. One I've worked with before is Class::Std, so I went looking for others referring to that module as a framework. I found these two and then stopped going through the results:

• Seeking inside-out object implementations
• Re^3: Help understanding object constructors (by Perl Best Practices book)

So I don't think this conception of "framework" is so far out of the ordinary.

I think the rant and other comments by Anonymous Monk/Peter Pei have been poorly conceived and poorly delivered. The best thing I could say about all that hot air is that it motivated me to say I enjoyed this article and thanks to Ovid for writing it!

Ever since Beyond Inside-Out, I've wanted (but not needed) a framework built around Anno's Alter ego objects. Ovid's article gives me some more to think about.

I cealrly doubt your logic. You did a search, and there popped up some posts that might support Ovid's and your idea, bingo here you go. You said "(not) out of the ordinary", your ordinary is obviously not so ordinary.
