In the OP's title, "apostrophe's" doesn't mean plural, but "apostrophe is".

    shmem thanks for sticking up for me. :-) but now that I think about it, is that a legal contraction? Like davis, I've been drinking. :-)

      Ah, that explains the missing double quotes in your link construct ;-)

      I guess it's legal, since it is the annotation of the words as spoken. "Apostrophe is" implies a sound break between the final "e" of "apostrophe" and "is", while "apostrophe's" denotes ligation of the two syllables. As written, it is ambiguous since it could also mean the apostrophe's dative form, but 'tis clear from context it ain't ;-)

      Disclaimer: I'm not a linguist and not a native english speaker, so that's all more a gut feeling than scientific fact. As always with me... see my sig ;-)
