Re: Should every poll have a "CowboyNeal" option?

    To quote The Smiths

    Well, Im afraid
    It doesnt make me smile
    I wish I could laugh

But that joke isnt funny anymore

Man, it's not even funny on Slashdot these days.

I personally believe that there is a point when a running gag makes many run gagging.
Self-referent blazar? (Hope your self-references are weak, otherwise how will you be garbage collected properly?)

        perl -ple'$_=reverse' <<<ti.xittelop@oivalf

Io ho capito... ma tu che hai detto?
In America you can Cowboy Neal,
In Mother Russia the Cowboy Neals you....or was that Brokeback Mountain?

Let's get the next 4 pointless polls outta the way in one foul swoop.

    1. Should any poll jabe a CowboyNeal option?
    2. Should some polls have a CowboyNeal option?
    3. Should one polls have a CowboyNeal option?
    4. Should none polls have a CowboyNeal option?

Answer: Not until Perl6 style junctions are available, which means someone added them to Perl5.x, and this site has been upgraded to use that.

Which reminds me of an old song. (The 'Livy Nu'on John version, not the Ony Dosmond; and certainly not the Keith Urban version!)

Hell's teeth. Did Elvis do a version? Jeez! That really dates it (and me!). He's been (un)dead like 50 odd years ain't he?

Please. Copying some other site's running gag (not really a joke), is exceedingly lame.

Surely we have some of our own?

Yeah, Paco and Cowboy Neal are two of them. Since Cowboy Neal's home node has been around since 1999, it appears this gag has been here for a while. Watch the upper right corner of the Perlmonks pages. The next time you see the guy with a bird on his hat, do a mouseover.

Of course, unless you're one of the Illuminati you'll never fully understand, so just go along wth it.

We do have one of our own. It's called hesh bug.

Okay, I'll address the three ton elephant in the room... What is the Cowboy Neal gag?

I've seen the name on polls at slashdot and here, but who was he? Why is mentioning the name supposed to be funny?

It makes sense on slashdot, as he's one of the admin over there.

Why it took off, I have no idea. I always preferred 'There are spiders in my hair! There are spiders in my hair!' response from The Asylum (at Georgia Tech, I think), unfortunately, that site closed shop in the 1990's, and most people these days never saw it. They had a poll archive, but I can't remember the exact URL to check if archive.org has a copy of it. (and searches for the above response or 'favorite features of Microsoft Bob' don't find anything)

The asylum had an interesting take on polls -- each response had [+] and [-] buttons next to it, and each poll could have 20 responses -- people would add responses 'til it filled up, and if a response was voted to -20, it was deleted, and someone could add a new response.

      (updated to fix typo)

All nodes are because of CowboyNeal

The following options should be on polls:

and should be reviewed by someone with 22 years IT experience and TWO COLLEGE degrees prior to putting in the Voting Booth.

I don't know either. But I voted CowboyNeal because this question is the quintessential CowboyNeal question.
