Responding to the ORIGINAL question in a thread

by rovf (Priest)
on Sep 05, 2008 at 09:10 UTC ( [id://709209]=monkdiscuss: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

I am surprised that when I go to a discussion thread in SoPW, for instance Extract a string (but it seems to apply to every SoPW node which already has a discussion attached), I find "reply" links for every message in the discussion, EXCEPT for the original question; this means I can reply to another reply which had already been done, but not to the original post. Is this a bug, or is there a reason for this restriction?

Maybe this would be a good topic to go to the PerlMonks FAQ....

It's just called differently, the link text is "Comment on".

If it just where so easy! Have a look at the screenshot here: http://img378.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mwsnapscreenshot020iw8.jpg. Given your response, I investigated a bit. The reason, why the link is not shown is that it is painted "white on white".

Then I suggest you use a CSS where it's not painted white on white ;-)

You're using an odd theme, it looks like. In the dark theme that I use, that doesn't happen (it's white on grey), and I just opened up perlmonks in a different browser where I'm not logged in, and the default theme has that text as white on blue.

I think you need to go to the Display Settings node and reset the theme you're using...

If the "comment on" text isn't visible, the theme is broken, and needs to be fixed

I'm using no theme; I thought my browser defaults for the colour of background and text would then be used...

No, the point of the "No Theme" theme is to disable all the default CSS you'd get when using a theme, so that those who so desire can completely style PerlMonks to their liking. (These folks find the small set of pre-canned themes too limiting.) If you use "No Theme", you really need to go define some CSS in your Display Settings. Yes, this should be better documented. ;-)

As recently announced in Tidings, this problem has been fixed. Thank you for reporting it.

I did not see any entry after Sep 7, 2008 (which listed only about the suppression of author level) in "Tidings".

      Time passes ... entry appears.

Question, didn't Tidings appear recently in topnavmenu, and now its gone?
The link is still there; it's labeled as What's New.
