My father served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. During Boot Camp, the Instructor asked him why my Dad left the 'middle name' part of a form empty.

"I don't have one" was the response.

"Don't be an idiot! Everyone has a middle name! What's your Christian name, the name you were given when you were baptised?"

"I'm a Jew, Chief Petty Officer! I don't have a Christian name!"

Dad made certain we all had middle names, to save us from having to do extra push-ups later in our lives...
