Shouldn't wavelenghts be multiples of the Planck length?

I believe we would need a better theory of quantum gravity to confirm or deny such speculation.

Now I'm seriously curious - why should they?

So far I've never worked with energy scales where quantization of that order of magnitude would matter (10^-9 vs. 10^-35 meter), so I'm curious where that comes from.

IANAPhycisist. That said, I was under the impression that there were no wavelengths smaller than ℓP. This may or may not have anything to do with the subject in question and, to add full disclosure, I am not renowned for my mental sanity.

IAPhyscisit, and so far the various spectra have looked pretty continuous to me. That's mainly because in an electric or magnetic field, the spectral lines can be fuzzed in continuous steps. Of course that's just an approximation, because in that case we assume that electromagnetic fields are continuous themselves - which they aren't in second quantization.

My current education doesn't allow me to give more fundamental statements about it, I was just curious if there's a simple argument of which quantization in steps of the Planck length falls out.

But I guess we're way too far off-topic by now...

[MidLifeXis]: Yeah, --notest is good, not sure I would do --force. [thezip]: It fails 2/10 tests in that group. What are the ramifications if I force it? What should I look for for? [thezip]: I've migrated from ActiveState to Strawberry. No going back... [thezip]: I'll try the --notest arg first when I get back from meetings (after lunch). [thezip]: Thanks guys for your comments! :-) [1nickt]: Quick survey: has anyone used or even heard of autobox? [Corion]: thezip: I would expect some (fancier?) numeric formatting to fail from these test failures [1nickt]: ( Sometimes when idle I browse remote corners of the code repo at \$work ... usually this yields knowledge of projects to decline and coworkers to avoid ... ) [LanX]: sure [Corion]: 1nickt: Finding autobox in production would give me pause, yes
