I am sorry to inform you that Ivor Williams, who posted on here as rinceWind and contributed to CPAN as IVORW, passed away last weekend.

His brother, Richard, is planning to organise a celebration of Ivor's life, and is open to suggestions as to the form this should take. Please contact me ( with any messages for Richard, and I will pass them on to him.

Only just seen this. I'm shocked to say the least, as I haven't been reading PerlMonks or for a few weeks. Ivor was one of the good guys and I've very glad to have know him. I have good memories of him trying to convince me that I should try some Real Ale instead of Guinness :)

I meant to catchup with him at a meeting more recently, as he was missed at YAPC::NA 2008. For the previous 3 years he and I were pretty much the regular Brit attendees. Our last sightseeing expedition was with Karsten, Cog and Abigail at the NASA Space Centre in Houston (here Ivor is second from the left).

Farewell my friend, you'll be missed.

I am very sorry to hear about this. Ivor was a new friend of mine while my wife and I were in London last year. I would appreciate any information regarding his passing.

I played chess online with him. I won the first one and he crushed me the second one.

[GrandFather]: discovering that one of the sensors for the device lies about the gain range it is using!
[GrandFather]: However, by the end of the day I had discovered its deceptions and now have it working correctly, so yes, all's well that ends well. :-D
[Corion]: GrandFather: Ah, (hardware) APIs - I have a similar situation with Chrome and its API... It is fairly underdocumented and I guess I have to hunt...
