That line is not a comment. In Unix, it is a start for perl script.

    And for Perl it's a comment, nothing more. (Of course, it does not belong in there since the module itself does nothing when invoked directly, but it does not affect the module in any way!)

    What does the Perl 5 parser do when it encounters that line when loading a module from another program?
