PerlMonks puzzles

Do You like puzzles? Sure, You do :-) Read on.

I think everybody would enjoy solving challenging puzzles. Yes, Perl golfs are great but they aren't easy to find them if You don't/can't watch PerlMonks often (if You can, but You don't is considered a sin :-)). And Perl golf isn't the only type of puzzles.

So I think a puzzle section would be great. Maybe it's not possible, but categorized puzzles would boost the site. With puzzles I mean every interesting puzzle, not only Perl Golf.

Please write up Your opinion.

I think that this Perl Puzzle idea would be a good thing...if there were ideas to back it up.

Right now I can't of any good ideas for this other than "how does this code do this" and "why does this code do this" kind of questions, which just aren't really fun.

So, now I ask you, do *you* have any ideas for this Perl puzzles section you propose?

    NOTE:No harshness intended.

Well I haven't thought of any good puzzles. Maybe "n queens' problem" would be a reasonable start.

This got me thinking. I think that Dr. Ecco's puzzles would be a great source of ideas. He comes up some fiendish tricks that can really stretch your programming talents. I'd start by looking over there first. It would be good to see some clever Perl solutions to these problems (and there are dozens already published if you care to look them up).

Another thing that's interesting about the column is that if you bend the rules a bit in order to pull off a tremendous hack, Dr. Ecco (Dennis E. Shasha) will give you credit it just the same.

Since I don't feel that a complete new section for perl puzzles is necessary at PM, I will at least undertake the task of cataloging nodes with perl puzzles, which right now is mostly the golfs and a few other nodes I know about. The listing is on my homenode, and if you see any glaring missing nodes, let me know.
