in thread The current state of Perl6

I'm pretty sure you know how misleading it is to say: "Python 3000 took eight and a half years from conception to its 3.0 release, and its changes were relatively minor."

Python 3000 started as a project on 05-Apr-2006. There was not a single line of code written before that, nor a description of the feature set. It was just a joke, like the Parrot april fool's joke.

It was released on December 3rd, 2008.

Please stop trying to make yourself look better by slandering other projects.

Could you please back up your statement with a source/citation?

I know almost nothing of the python development process, and if one persons says "yae" and the other "nae", how am I supposed to know whom to believe?

Perl 6 - links to (nearly) everything that is Perl 6.

Python 3.0 (a.k.a. "Python 3000" or "Py3k") is a new version of the language that is incompatible with the 2.x line of releases. The language is mostly the same, but many details, especially how built-in objects like dictionaries and strings work, have changed considerably, and a lot of deprecated features have finally been removed. Also, the standard library has been reorganized in a few prominent places.
Happy 10th Anniversary, Python 3000!

    That's easy to disprove:

... at BeOpen.com we will be focused full time on Python development! This means that we'll be able to spend much more time on exciting new projects like Python 3000.

[Python-Dev] ANNOUNCEMENT: Python Development Team Moves to BeOpen.com, Guido van Rossum, May 30 2000

You can also find Python 3000 related PEPs and discussions in the list archives from 2000.
