They look good to me too. I wonder if the Rakudo folks would like a "Rakudo *" version? (And would it be available for all implementations, eg Yapsi, sprixel, etc., if they wanted it?) | [reply] |

Of course, the images would be open sourced as svg/canvas.

But why a butterfly? What's wrong with the Camel? Isn't a "camelia" a rose? Am I missing something here?

What's wrong with the Camel?
O'Reilly holds the trade mark for the Camel used in connection with the Perl programming language. It's a pity that the most wildly recognized symbol for an open source programming language suffers such legal restrictions. (But to be fair it's O'Reilly that come up with the Camel, to the best of my knowledge).

Camelia is the name of the Perl 6 mascot, which you can adore on http://perl6.org/.
Perl 6 - links to (nearly) everything that is Perl 6.

A camel would be nice. The number of humps might indicate the version ;)

Nice, though maybe the version number doesn't stand out enough, especially the "6"? What do others think?
You might also want to create black and white versions suitable for print when you get a chance.
BTW, are there any potential legal issues with Microsoft's butterfly logo for MSN, etc.?

These are just first drafts, i was expecting to refine (or even redraw) them based on feedback from the Perl 6 decision makers.
Everything would have been possible, sadly there is no interest and i'm giving up now, the logos will not get finished.

I'm sorry to hear that, I think your design showed a lot of promise. Is this a case of nobody in a position of influence wanting to hurt Larry's feelings? Because the current logo is just awful. Unprofessional, ugly, it reinforces many of the unfortunate negative stereotypes about perl that I hear from other programmers. And I really think the official logo for Perl 6 should really be something that's open to debate

I don't know if you are still scanning this for feedback, but I really like the energy in the Amelia logo. The others seem flat in comparison and not just because the are less commercial. One gets more of a feeling up "up and away" with Amelia.
I hope you haven't given up entirely on this. Today I just finished rereading "Horton hears a Hoo" - sometimes it really does take a small voice who hasn't been heard before to make a real change. Until people listen it really can feel dim, but that doesn't mean you are wrong or have something that shouldn't be put into the lime light.
