What I don't understand is what motivated you to want deterministic encryption in the first place
I want to be able to do database lookups on the encrypted text. I also want to understand the extent of the security consequences of using deterministic encryption. E.g. is the encryption highly insecure when padding is not used, or is it just marginally less secure?

No matter how great and destructive your problems may seem now, remember, you've probably only seen the tip of them. [1]
