What makes irc.perl.org so hard to connect with?by Lady_Aleena (Deacon)

Lady_Aleena has asked for the
wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:
As there isn't anywhere to post things about the perl community in general, I think this is the best place to ask. Does anyone else have any problems establishing a connection to irc.perl.org? It seems that every time I try to connect, something between my computer and the server breaks making a connection between my computer and their server nearly impossible. I am using mIRC on a Windows XP PC with avast! antivirus software. I have also encountered this problem with another server with chatzilla.
This is so very annoying that the server where some of the help channels for various perl related topics is so hard to get connected to. I have checked everything I can think of including the settings for the server which I have as irc.perl.org at port 6667 and my antivirus software. According to down for everyone of just me it is just me which makes it even harder.
If anyone has any other suggestions of what I can try with the current software I am using, I am interested. At this point I am rather irritated by this. The IRC connectivity issue is the reason I do not shut down or reboot my computer as often as I probably should. Once I get a stable connection, I do not want to lose it.
Update 1: I let it keep trying over 8 hours. I still could not connect to the server.
Update 2: It is definitely mIRC, so I am still digging.
Have a cookie and a very nice day!
