in reply to Perl 64-bit versions

5.14.3 has been postponed for lack of requests to backport fixes. In other words, nothing critical is known to be missing from 5.14.2.

I don't know any 5.12.x or 5.14.x that has problems not in earlier 5.12.x or 5.14.x. They truly have been maintenance releases as they should be.

Looks like I'll be holding out for 5.16.1 when (hopefully) they'll have fixed the problem with vec.

It'd be nice if this silliness went away also, but as it seems to be deliberate -- no matter how ill-advised -- I won't hold my breath.

    c:\test>perl -wE"$x = 0xffffffffffffffff" Hexadecimal number > 0xffffffff non-portable at -e line 1.

With the rise and rise of 'Social' network sites: 'Computers are making people easier to use everyday'

In the absence of evidence, opinion is indistinguishable from prejudice.

    The start of some sanity?

I agree. That belongs in a linter (e.g. perlcritic).
