in thread What operator should perl5porters use for safe dereferencing?

  1. How much time do you spend reading or editing code in a terminal session?
  2. You could grab yourself a descent programmer's font and use it in your terminal sessions.

    100% of time

    descent programmer's font

    I find terminus quite decent. And I don't think that requirement to use font that have tilde in the middle of the line in order to read the code is reasonable.

      I don't see why:

      ~ ~ ~ > is any less acceptable than = or $bool &= $mask;

        One is supposed to look like an arrow, the other one doesn't. It's actually a good demonstration. In your scenario, ~> would be much closer to the other operators using ~ than to the deref operator.

      I dont find not using the most intuitive (to me) option just because your font doesn't display it well to be reasonable either. ;-)
