pkhayeskp has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I am trying to compile this information but getting an error. I am compiling the module - Params-Util-1.07.

... gcc: +DAportable: No such file or directory gcc: +DS2.0: No such file or directory gcc: +Z: No such file or directory gcc: +Onolimit: No such file or directory gcc: +Opromote_indirect_calls: No such file or directory gcc: +Z: No such file or directory cc1: unrecognized option `-fast' *** Error exit code 1

gcc doesn't understand the HP compiler specific options +DAportable, +DS2.0, +Z, etc.

In case you're wondering where they're coming from:  Perl remembers how exactly it's been built, to be able to produce compatible extensions; and your perl apparently hasn't been built with gcc.

So, either use HP's system compiler to build extension modules for your existing perl, or build your own perl with gcc, in which case you can then also use it to compile extension modules.

      Thanks for the info.
FWIW, FYI, an extra piece of advice, build an extra perl with gcc , don't overwrite the system perl, it will undoubtedly break some system utilities (more work for you)

[PriNet]: quick question... anyone know how to remove all the existing keys in a %hash ? i've tried several options, but when i re-use the hash, some of the "upper" keys that i don't re-use stick and i can't get them to "remove"
