AWS CloudWatch - Does anyone use Perl for this? Should I choose a different tool for this job?

LurkingFoobar has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have been looking at the the Perl CloudWatch library supplied by Amazon Web Services at http://aws.amazon.com/code/2518.

I noticed that there seemed to be an easy-to-find easy-to-fix bug in the getName/getValue code for metrics and dimensions. This tells me that no one actually uses this code. I would like to use Perl for some CloudWatch calls instead of the Java CLI tools or Python. In part this is because of Perl's integration with nagios.

However, after googling for perl and cloudwatch and finding nothing I have to conclude that no one is using this library or any other Perl library for CloudWatch.

Is this true? Should I just use python's very complete boto library for programming cloudwatch metrics?

There are other excellent Perl libraries out there for parts of AWS, e.g. VM::EC2. And some of the AWS supplied code has worked just fine so far. But I don't want to make myself obsolete. And frankly, I am a tool user not a tool maker or CPAN contributor.

Your advice would be appreciated.
