in reply to poll ideas quest 2012

Prologue:

I would like to learn more about the employment status of Perl developers, for several reasons: first, I teach Perl programming and I would like to tell my students what they should expect from learning the language. Second, beside teaching, I also work as a consultant and I do Perl development full time. I always preach for Perl and defend the values of the language among my coworkers. Third, I once was told by a headhunter that I should focus on PHP instead of Perl because that would be better for my career (I refused her PHP job and got a better Perl job instead).

Question/topic:

What kind of Perl job do you have / are you looking for?

Choices:

  • I have a job doing full time Perl programming, I am not looking for a new one.
  • I have a job doing full time Perl programming, but I would love to find a better opportunity.
  • I have a job doing full time Perl programming, but I hate it! I would prefer working with another language.
  • I have a job and I do only a little Perl programming but that's enough for me.
  • I have a job and I do only a little Perl programming but I'd like to do more!
  • I have a job and I do only a little Perl programming but that's too much for me!
  • I have a job, I don't do Perl programming, and I don't care for a new job.
  • I have a job, I don't do Perl programming but I would love to, if I find a good opportunity.
  • I have a job but I only do Perl programming on weekends. I don't want to work full time in Perl. It's more like a hobby.
  • I don't have a job right now, I would love to find a Perl programming opportunity.
  • I don't have a job right now but I am not looking to work with Perl.
  • I don't have a job right now and I love it!
  • Being paid for doing Perl programming??? I would do that for free!
  • Perl is dead. There are no job opportunities for Perl developpers anymore.
  • What is "Perl"?
  • What is "job"?

Thank you!

-- Take my advice. I don't use it anyway.

I'd love to see the answers of this pool, maybe I could find the answer of the question : What is job? Is it doing the same thing over and over again no matter the language?

It's like I've always said... if you work for a business, you should really try to look busy!

But if you are stuck doing the same thing over and over again, you should really try to automate your work! Then you will have more time to look busy.

There are no stupid questions, but there are a lot of inquisitive idiots.
