It will be a permission issue. Many computers mount a CD-ROM under the user-name of the mounting user, and stipulate that the device may only be used by them. It does not have to be so. Access Control Lists (ACLs) are the most common technique used these days. You may wish to consider transcribing the information onto a hard drive, since CD-ROMs are slow.
