If you did the right thing and were fully aware of everything you were doing, warnings would be unnecessary. But brains fart regularly. And when they do, you might not even be aware of it were it not for those warnings ... and that puts the risks right off the scale.

Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
