Well, I'm able to reply (i.e. via the Comment on link) but I'm not in a Cabal.
I may have missed your intention here.
Anyway, let's test it and see what happens ...

posted node successfully;
editing in Update mode worked as before;
and, unless you hear otherwise, updated the node successfully.
From ++jdporter's "RFC: Edit your posts in a separate page, rather than at the top of a thread." post, this is the outcome I'd expect.
