petemar1 = Marc Peters

The designation "petemar1" comes from the user naming system defined by the Illinois Institute of Technology. The rule was: produce a seven-letter username from the first 4 letters of the last name, and the first 3 letters of the first name. If the username already exists, then add a numeral to the end of the username, beginning with "1" for the second user with the same name, "2" for the third user with the name, "3" for the fourth, and so on. Thus, "Marc Peters" becomes "petemar1," the second user to hold the "petemar" designation.

I am not the first, nor am I the last.

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong>   <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
