This is not just the ISAPI extention. This is a problem withthe win32 Perl.exe as well.

Also part of this problem occurs with Apache on Win32, and Apache on Linux. Remove the Alarm() function and run the same Perl script from Apache. When the script is running click STOP or Refresh in your browser.

Now take a look at your running processes. You'll see that the script is still going. Wait until your timeout setting has passed, take a look at your running processes, and guess what? The script is still running. And it'll keep running until you kill the process yourself.

Please NO MORE comments from people who have not experienced this problem OR have not bothered to test for this problem with the required code.

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
  • Want more info? How to link or How to display code and escape characters are good places to start.
