1) That perl doesn't compile to independent non-reversible byte-code, and that people on the Windows side will never adopt it because of that.
2) Perlcc is still shipped with perl, and it doesn't work.
3) Monks rather than telling people that ACME::Bleach is irreversible are honest, and tell them the truth.

I think it comes down to Perl's PR. People don't want their code to be reverse-engineered, never mind viewable in notepad. I'm told it is the number one question asked to those that teach HTML. I have no reason to care, 95% of my code isn't on the net and the 5% that is I want others to read. People who start out new, want something on the lines of a statically linked C executables, no where in Learning Perl (lama) book does it teach you how to compile Perl code into the engine, or anything of the like.

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
  • Want more info? How to link or How to display code and escape characters are good places to start.
