I have a module that includes this code ref. that you should be able to adapt to do what you want.
# ----------
my $_cleanPath = sub
# ----------
{
my $absPath = shift;
return $absPath if $absPath =~ m{^/$};
my @elems = split m{/}, $absPath;
my $ptr = 1;
while( $ptr <= $#elems )
{
if( $elems[ $ptr ] eq q{} )
{
splice @elems, $ptr, 1;
}
elsif( $elems[ $ptr ] eq q{.} )
{
splice @elems, $ptr, 1;
}
elsif( $elems[ $ptr ] eq q{..} )
{
if( $ptr < 2 )
{
splice @elems, $ptr, 1;
}
else
{
$ptr --;
splice @elems, $ptr, 2;
}
}
else
{
$ptr ++;
}
}
return $#elems ? join q{/}, @elems : q{/};
};
I hope this is of use. Cheers, JohnGG

Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
