Ack! It sucks! All the javascript pop up junk. eek.. I would consider poppin in there once a week if not for .. the junk! Why put buttons to make text larger and smaller?? It's infantile- written by someone who does not understand that content rules- and presentation should stay as far in the control of the end user as possible. That means no funny backgrounds and styles.

Look.. just try this.. Do you have the firefox web developer plugin? go to that site, disable all styles.. Aha.. now.. that's much more useful.

ok ok.. I know I know.. harsh.. but.. look- this is content for coders- not for users. I'll accept the flash junk on the bbc site because it's for general mass consumption- but even these guys are super pro and give a low graphics option that's well crafted. Now that's a site. It doesn't need to do silly stuff because it's got *content*- What other site can we think of like that? Hmm?? ;-)

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
  • Want more info? How to link or How to display code and escape characters are good places to start.
