Modems were the “modern technology” in War Games. :-D Hollywood really doesn’t care about technical accuracy anyway... only that it “looks cool” ... and rightly so. Theirs is a game that has famously been described as “bums in seats” and selling tickets.
What we should be talking about is this:

“On the first day, God created Perl. And God saw that Perl was good. So, God started the program and went home.”
