Is @perlmonks_org the official Twitter account for PerlMonks? If yes, out of curiosity, who is maintaining it, because it is still an egg?

While we're on the subject, I'll take this opportunity to remind monks that we do have an "official" Facebook page, which should be a good off-site source of information in the event of disaster. Please note: we will generally only use that page if/when it is impossible to post an announcement here.

Any other channels people know of? Will somebody post announcements in the cbstream in the event of disaster? (By disaster, I mean PerlMonks going down.)

I reckon we are the only monastery ever to have a dungeon stuffed with 16,000 zombies.

Last time PerlMonks was down, some folks gathered at irc.perl.org#perlmonks ...

Iff www.perlmonk.org (note the missing 's') would be on-line again, that could be another place to post a note.

Or just wait and pray ... ;-)

You could put the links to both the Twitter account and Facebook page in the footer of each page, saying something not exactly like...

In the event that this site is experiencing difficulties, please see our Twitter or Facebook feeds for more information.

Then make sure that those feeds are updated when the site goes down or has other major problems.

Maybe your notion of "going down" is different from mine.

I doubt it, its not documented anywhere :)

I don't discount the possibility that one of the gods or pmdevs set it up a few years ago when we had that bunch of outages, and other stuff

I set up some "official" Twitter account, maybe it is perlmonks.org, as an out-of-band announcement channel. But as there was no convenient way to "publish" announcements via Twitter and plain HTML to some place other than Twitter, the project fell by the wayside.

Should the account come into official use, there will be a separate announcement anyway.
