2. Prior experience in another language makes you qualified to write perl without learning the basics.Er. I'll take exception to this notion. In fact that is the essence TMTOWTDI and DWIM. You need to look no further than languages like Prolog and Haskell to see how true that is (no amount of C will help you with either of those languages). Now whether this is a virtue is a completely different topic.
