Since I've been registered here, there seems to be more interest in my login name than my "contributions". 
It's simply a contraction of my name (peter allen) which just happens to fall phonetically between the volatile  'petrol'  and the [http://faculty.plattsburgh.edu/peter.friesen/default.asp?go=866|pelagic]  [http://www.photolib.noaa.gov/corps/corp1435.htm|'petrel'] .
