Thanks to all Posters. Your comments got the old mental gears turning. I figured out *why* the shell script wasn't working, due to comments made here. Hint : replaced grep 'term-goes-here' with grep 'term-goes-here.*' .... that gets the entire line of text. Learned something anyways ... Thanks to All.
