Hi. I'm a graphic/web designer seeking to learn the mysteries of the oyster. I was originally drawn to Perl as a means to learn CGI programming, but I'm now trying to expand my Perl reach a bit. Spent about seven years ('96 - '03) living in Portland, Oregon.

After a few years of watching Portland's school system and job market implode I jumped ship and moved the family back to the Akron, Ohio area. Not a lot of difference job-wise but at the very least my monsters can get a good education.

I'll miss a few things about Portland though...portland perl mongers of course, even if I felt in waaay over my head (grep, ovid, chromatic, bigal, lemming, merlyn, jZed, Tom ... to name just a few of the fine, fine perlmongers on the loose in Puddletown that I was lucky enough to meet), L.R.S.D., assorted smutmongers,Free Geek was fun, watching my neighbor get arrested by heavily armed F.B.I agents will go in my mental archive (apparently he was one of the surviving S.L.A. members - nice guy btw)

O.K. Ohio... give me your worst.

Rubbercity Perl Mongers

Since there was no Perl Mongers here in Akron, I've started one. Rubbercity Perl Mongers. If you happen to be a speaker and would like to give a presentation please let me know. We'd be glad to have you.

Personal Stuff:

I'm married to a super-groovy Limey chick named Andi. How she puts up with me is harder to understand than regexes for an initiate. We also have two child processes named Thing1 and Thing2. And a strange cat (update: or four-- what the ?...How'd that happen?).

I have played drums in several punk/alternative bands over the years, had a lot of fun and met a lot of cool people. Upon arriving back in Ohio, I was immediately cons‎crip‎ted to play drums for the Professional Againsters. Punk rock hooligans. wohoo!

Stuff I like:

Music - Iggy/Stooges, MC5, Sonic Youth, The Who, The Jam, The Clash, Julian Cope, Pixies, L7, Television (the band not the appliance), Buzzcocks (again- a band, not an appliance ;o), 360's, N.Y.Dolls, Ramones, Richard Hell and The Voidoids, Supersuckers, The Hellacopters, The Pagans, Dead Boys, Death of Samantha/Cobra Verde, Guided by Voices, etc. etc.

Writers - Hunter S. Thompson (who has the same birthday as me), Lydia Lunch, Jim Carroll, Bukowski, Kitty (who probably wouldn't consider himself a "writer"), some guy named Randal, whose books I have been spending a LOT of time with recently.

Cool Portland stuff I miss:

The Last Regiment of Syncopated Drums - a crazed bunch of folks who like to bang on stuff REALLY hard. They also march in parades and drink beer. Check them out if you're in the area, you'll be glad I promise.

Portland Perl Mongers - You probably have an idea of what that's all about

FreeGeek - an organization whose (many) merits include getting free computers into the hands of anyone willing to give a little time, recycling old computers and keeping a grocery list of heavy metals and other bad thingy-doobies out of landfills (even though a lot of heavy metal SHOULD be in a landfill - See current Metallica albums for further details) and supporting Linux/Open source.

Many, many thanks to grep for all of his help and egging me on.
