The polling engine doesn't verify that your answer is valid. All you need to do is go to url http://perlmonks.org/index.pl?node_id=186683&displaytype=display&vote=2 to record a vote for option 2 (which doesn't exist). This will increase the number of total voters but will not increase either option.
