You just keep telling yourself that. I'm extremely
fortunate in that my workplace's hiring procedure includes
a case study -- and it works, too -- but all but a handful
of employers look at your credentials, and maybe your
resumé and references, and don't do any practical
check on whether you can actually do the job they're hiring
you for. If you're lucky, and your employer isn't afraid
of wrongful-dismissal suits, your less useful cow-orkers
might get fired for their incompetence, if
their supervisor notices that they're not pulling their
weight. Welcome to the cube farm.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
