Oh please be polite. Or at least stay to the point instead of being insulting.

Perl was raised to a new level with CGI at one point, but now Perl has lost this particular web battle.
Sure perl/CGI sucks, but so does all CGI. CGI still has its niche, but it's minimal.

mod_perl is quite a different beast, though. It may be too flexible and, well, too much perl to be very popular these days, but it's a damn good and FAST platform for web applications.

I also note that one of the few languages that has remained popular for decades; C, has never had a particular application area.

Nobody gives a damn about perl 6 since it's not here yet. I also don't give a damn about ruby 2, java 6, php 6 etc etc.

Also, "best breed" is just marketing speak.
