The new silly hat picture: Yes, I'm doing an impression of a garden gnome. It's a really warm hat, being made of wool, knit and then fulled. I need to find a picture of me in a blue tunic and the hat...

Caption from old picture: That's me in the middle (the fat guy in a Far Side T-shirt) between my wife (on the left) and a friend, Julie, whom we got together with in Tallinn, Estonia. That's the old city in the background. Oh, Julie is a tablet weaver, too... imagine that!

Caption from old picture^2:

That's me doing tablet weaving (the tablets are hiding in my hands)...no, I don't dress that way in my day job (except for Halloween, where I wore pretty close to what I am wearing in that picture.).

Pursuant to the Unitarian Jihad, I am also known as The Spikey Mace of Quiet Reason. (see Unitarian Jihad Name Generator)

My Unitarian Jihad Name is: The Spikey Mace of Quiet Reason.

Get yours.

ObPerl: I have a Perl module that helps me design patterns...

Life is good at work...it's nice to have a job that is fun.

See scratchpad for resume. Email herveus@gmail.com for other details.

I use Perl for my hobbies (heraldry, gaming) as much as for work. I've got some proto-modules that chart tablet-weaving patterns, process heraldic information (SCA context), and work with Traveller based stuff.

Just for giggles and yuks: ravioli railguns

More giggles and yuks: Skippy's List - the 213 Things Skippy is No longer Allowed to do in the U.S. Army.

...on HTML (so-called) email:
email that says "click here" makes as much sense as pressing food against your forehead in the hopes you will gain sustenance thereby

Seen in the ChatterBox:
jZed: on the "right to throw a punch" theme, I like - "a non-smoking section in a restaurant is like a non-peeing section in a pool"

I'm gonna see about getting a button made with this on it...

XP changes

Just so Detonitejkva can say "I'm looking at your house" and not be just making stuff up: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=5412+Lakeford+Lane,+Bowie,+MD&t=k&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=38.963953,-76.762077&spn=0.001281,0.001888&z=19

...so edan keeps track of monks whose taste in Whisky runs to the Islay side of the force...I'm listed there, but his list only covers the Islays...

  • Lagavulin 16
  • Laphraoig (10 is ok, 15 is wonderful)
  • Ardbeg (17 was wonderful; A'bunadh is really good; the new 10 yo is ok)
  • Port Ellen (sadly, now car park, but really yummy)
  • Caol Ila 18 -- liquid dirt
  • Caol Ila 12 -- completely different, sort of a toned-down Laphraoig 10
  • Talisker (10 is good; 25 is heavenly; 30 is divine)
  • Scapa 14
  • Highland Park (12, 15, 18)
  • Springbank
  • Aberlour 15 -- a splash in the port is wonderful
  • Sheep Dip -- really! A good blend of 8 year olds.
  • Glen Rothes
