...the more I learn, the more I realize I don't know. And I'm determined not to leave here feeling stupider than when I arrived. It's a vicious cycle.

It's become part of my life.

I've learned so much more than just Perl and have become part of a community of similarly open minded people (for the most part) who are prepared to listen to different points of view without prejudice.

It is so incredibly refreshing to discover an entire community of people in pursuit of the same knowledge you've dedicated yourself to finding. Not only have I gained the knowledge of the dozens of links, sites, FAQ'S and documentations to help me with my studies, but I've also been able to participate in the perl community, which as a general rule, reciprocal interaction is a much more intense, beneficial learning experience, than reading, or some other form of one-sided discovery.

I think it is an incredible experience to have the opportunity to seek guidance from those who have been where you are, are where you're going and willing to discuss both their journey and their knowledge with those on the path presently. This is a wonderful place to be a part of. PerlMonks has helped me tremendously and continues to do so. I've also picked up a few friends along the way, which is a very nice bonus :D I know I don't quite fit into the "norm" of hacker culture, but the Monastery has accepted me nonetheless :D (even though it was a bit awkward at first;).

Bottom line, I personally believe I am quite fortunate to have the benefit of learning with the aid of the Monastery. Thanks Monks :D

That would be me, I AM the voices.

I joined because one can receive *competent* answers.

I've stayed because I hope to give something back to the community.

I stay for the same reason I joined: To hear about bugs in my modules that should be fixed, and to inform the community as wide as possible about the fixes

Meanwhile I also reply in the CB about quick questions

When I was starting out with Perl I realized that often when I Googled a question I had, the best answer would come from here.

I joined in hopes that I could contribute back and maybe offer assistance to others getting started with Perl. But since I've created my account and started keeping an eye on the posts, I've realized that I still have a lot to learn.

Fast and very qualified response to any Perl (and general program) related questions i've had.

A high competence level in computer science, leading to ground breaking new developments and inspiring meditations; Again sparking cool uses of techniques in my own pet projects, be that Perl, C#, LISP - and whatever.

    Thanks guys !

I want to learn about Perl

I'm well aware my Perl prowess is at the lower end of the mastery continuum. I'd like that to change, which is why I'm here:

        To follow the path:
        look to the master,
        follow the master,
        walk with the master,
        see through the master,
        become the master.

... or something like that :)

    Indicators of geekdom:
    • You get a kick out of finishing sentences with domain names, because of the syntactic overlap of certain written languages and DNS notation.
    • You understood the previous sentence.
