5 years ago today, Perl Monks opened its doors for the first time. yiango and BBQ were among the first to wander in.

Thanks to everyone who has helped make Perl Monks a useful, helpful, and welcoming resource to this day.

What about paco? According to his homenode, he predates Perl Monks by almost 2 months!? How does that work? He even predates you! Using the Node Navigator Nodelet, I actually find there are a few such monks... what's the secret?

Hmm, based on some of my recent behavior, I believe I turned 5 today as well. ;)

...oh, you mean actual age. Yes.

Congrats, vroom. It's a cool site.

Congratulations. I feel there's no place on the web where I ever learned that much, every day...

Happy birthday to Perl Monks and congratulations to you for everything you've done here. I can't thank you enough (heck, I would likely not have the career I've had were it not for this site.)

And I can't say I remember yiango but I do miss BBQ. He was fun.

    Cheers,

Happy Birthday to the Monastary! I was worried when I noticed the "Perl Monk5" moniker this morning. I thought we were forking into Perl Monk5 and Perl Monk6 for the respective versions of Perl... Glad that's not the case!

Yes I was somehow puzzled too.
Five years, that's quite young. I would have thought it was around longer. Now come on, monks of the olden days: tell us some anecdotes of way back when ... please ...

It is us who should be thanking you for putting this site together and making it possible for all of us. Thank you for doing this.

5 years ago today, Perl Monks opened its doors for the first time.

And about three years ago I read a Damin Conway interview in the pair Networks support newsletter and said to myself, "A Perl resource on the net? Great idea! Join immediately!" It's been great fun, and I've learned an enormous amount.

Thanks to everyone who has helped make Perl Monks a useful, helpful, and welcoming resource to this day.

Yeah. Thanks a million everyone. What a terrific resource.

Ah. I was wondering who was befallen by fit of 1337ness and changed the topbar. :-) [ Update: for posterity: the logo in the topbar said Perl Monk5 rather than Perl Monks. ]

Thank you for the site, thanks to the still post-less initiate who introduced me to the site, and thanks to everyone for the content. Let's make the next 5 years even better than the first!

The thing I apreciate most about open source software is the community that comes with it. But never has that feeling been so real and warm as here.

Congratulations! Perlmonks is set as my Homepage :)

Interestingly, I was wondering the other day about this vroom person. I thought you must be invisible because despite not being around a lot, you still have XP's of over a million.

    Merry Xmas.

Nasty bots made vroom ban robots, but we do have an archive from perlmonks.thepen.com from 2001.

Ahh, the old site design - how far we've come ;-)
