I'm tired. Very tired. After 4 years, this is my 4500th post.

I haven't achieved what I wanted. It's time to give up and do something else.

This was my last post.

That's too bad but understood. You are/were one of the most sober monks here and in a smallish group that taught me things on a regular basis. Hope you land in fields Elysium… uh, but without the dying first part.

Damn! You let the pedants get to you. That is a crying shame. Damn & blast!

Damn! You let the pedants get to you. That is a crying shame. Damn & blast!

But ... YOU ARE one of the "pedants!!"

Oh contraire! But, put your name to that and let's talk about it.

... a little depressed eh? I get like that sometimes, but after a few days or weeks, you come back to see what is happening. Einstein said "Depression is the wellspring of inspiration".... I've learned what that means after going thru it a few hundred times. :-)

I'm not really a human, but I play one on earth.

That's sad news on a sunny day.

There are too many of nodes on perlmonks each day, so I concentrate looking at those with an interesting title and on those written by certain monks. You are among my "special monks"-list. While the tone of your posts is often harsh (but usually well deserved, and in an entertaining way), they mostly contain valuable info and insights - I have learned a lot from you. Thanks!

All the best for your future, and may you achieve what you want whereever you are going to now!

As one who's only been here a little over two years, I want to thank you personally for your many contributions. Sure, many folks had issues with your style, but I learned a long time ago that those who have the skillz, such as yourself, are entitled to a little fun--and I always took your comments--no matter how controversial they might've been considered to others--to be done in the sort of edgy humor that I really enjoy... including your choice of nickname.

I salute you. Wish you well. Hope you will continue to contribute after a sanity break... and thanks for all the very valuable programming advice and help. You've always great contributor to Perlmonks. Best regards...

A great shame. You don't say what you wanted to achieve, but just think of what you did!
Think of all the people you helped, all the prats that you put down, and how you made the world a better place.
Be proud of what you achieved, we'll miss you.

Aw, dang it! Now I need to make another rhyme for another user to be found yet instead of keeping "I am a fan of the (wo)man named JavaFan".

    See you [Space^WPerl] Cowboy!

Continue in any case. May be you need to change the pattern little bit, to achieve what you want. You might be able to rip the effort of years. Share with us and you will gain more. Me too. Your contribution has been very valuable.

Enough of that.   A new crop of Perl questions will come up tomorrow needing an answer, and we all expect you to be on-point and on-time to help answer them for another 4,500 iterations.

    Aw Gee!

As my Grandfather used to say when we were leaving after a visit, "I was just beginning to like you!"

(Slightly) more seriously, remember what the Rolling Stones said about getting what you want...

It's like a funeral in here.

JavaFan - thanks for all the insight and for being the anti-groupthink sledgehammer now and again, and again and again.

    We will all miss you.

The feeling will pass. Remember: You can always come back!
Well, he did say it "was" his last post. Not "is" or "will be". So one could claim he already implied he will be back. It's a stretch. And feels a bit desperate. But what the hey!! ;)

Look, honest to God, I am not "JavaFan". Maybe it's wishful thinking on your part(s), or maybe you all have an overgrown tendency towards conspiracy theories, but I am not "JavaFan". I do not know a whole lot about Perl, and I doubt that I can fill the shoes he seems to have left. Just before I saw this thread I posted a new "meditation" above, maybe it has something to say about why you have these suspicions.

Sorry to see you go, JavaFan. I've been wondering why I haven't been seeing you around lately...and then I stumbled on this post.

I thought of you as one of the premier resources on this site. You contributed an enormous amount of valuable information/answers to this site. I'm sorry to see you go.
