My research focused on biological and emotional reactions to sounds, which appealed to me because I was an audiophile and amateur musician 8-}But what I spent most of my time on was the challenge of developing custom software to analyse the raw data for interesting patterns, using the best languages of the 70s, which included C and later AWK. After an Asst. Professorship in CS with the Univ. of Utah's CS Dept. (1980-1982), I was hired by AT&T to develop and teach classes on UNIX and C, and found that I liked this occupation best. I now teach classes on <A HREF="http://teachmeunix.com/unixlist.html">UNIX</A> and <A HREF="http://teachmeperl.com/perllist.html">Perl</A> topics to the Fortune 500, full-time, through my company <A HREF="http://teachmeperl.com">Consultix</A>, based in Seattle.I was honored by the Perl community in July, 2002 by being granted a White Camel Award, in part for my work in establishing (in 1998) and leading the <A HREF="http://www.seattleperl.org">Seattle Perl User's Group</A>.
