Furthermore, I don't think that your description of geocaching.com is correct:

It is not done by a number (favourite points are only positive), but with the log-entries:
From time to time you find log-entries stating the location is a boring or even horrible place (e.g. used as a garbage-dump by the locals).
And I use that information before deciding wether I go for a cache or not.

Additionally, there are rating-add-ons like <a href="http://gcvote.com/">gc vote</a>, which have the possibility of
negative votes to caches - and that addon is very popular with my caching-friends.</p>
<p>
So there seems a need to be able to express negative opinions even in the <em>perfect world of geocaching</em>.
